The Dining Room

The dining room is in its pomp when set out for a party of eighteen, but it is equally atmospheric when laid out with tables of two or four.

It has the feel of a grand medieval hall. In fact, it was built around the time of the Norman conquest, but do those small triangular windows suggest a more prosaic history?

Menus

Our Head Chef produces a small a La Carte Menu for which he draws inspiration from local produce.

Dinner is available on Monday to Sunday nights between 6pm and 8:30pm.

Wine and Spirits

Dear Guests,

The present List is the fruit of our passion for fine Wine and Spirits, as well as our continuous effort to create a unique experience for the visitor of the Old Downton Lodge. It is a work in progress, but we sincerely hope that you will enjoy reading through its pages, find the choices of your pleasure and let us create a memorable experience for you.

The choices that you are about to browse, have been put together, in order to compliment the elegance of the dishes created by our Head Chef, Nick Bennett, and are there to provide exceptional representation and value for each country and region listed.

We are very proud of the fact that our Wines and Spirits are supplied by the award-winning Shropshire wine merchant, Tanners Wines of Shrewsbury.

Tanners have been an independent family shipper of estate wines since 1842 and stay resolutely independent until today. Run by James Tanner, who is the fourth generation of the family to work in the company, the firm employs more than 100 people, with the majority split between its distinctive, black & white headquarters in Shrewsbury and its distribution depot in Wales.

By shipping direct from the vineyards into their own premises, they offer unique wines from predominantly family producers, who have a passion for their land, vines and produce. Tanners have won an international reputation and a loyal following among wine lovers, as well as a great number of important national awards and accolades, acknowledging the firm as one of the very best wine merchants in the UK.

Here at the Old Downton Lodge we believe that good service is about helping you create those special moments, which will become the memories of the future.

To Good Health!

Kindest Regards,
Willem and Pippa Vlok

Ever Since I started working at Old Downton Lodge it was my dream to create a bespoke whisky library. It’s a spirit I have fallen in love with during my early bartending days. Over the years I have visited quite a few distilleries and drunk even more drams in the process of expanding my knowledge. the main share of the library is decicated to Scotland after all that’s where it all started (allegedly). It’s fascinating how so many different styles can be created using pretty much the same ingredients. Everyone has got their favourite region or style, mine is by far Campbeltown. Oily, maritime, briny and full of so called Campbeltown funk whiskies are something else in my opinion.

Our selection gives you a chance to join us on a wonderful journey through the world of whiskies and try something that you perphaps love already, always wanted to try or just curious.
